History

On the 1st of February 1863 the Cornwall Railway Company started laying the line from Plymouth to Penzance.

In 1864 the Newquay and Cornwall Junction Railway was formed to lay the line from Drinnick mill to Burngullow junction (finished 1871).

In 1866 Burngullow Station was built with one platform on the south side. It served the local traffic until 1898 when the second line was laid, because of the junction from Drinnick Mill the up line platform could not be built. So in 1901 the new station was built 11 cables west on the opposite side of the bridge with two platforms and an interconnecting bridge. The old station then became the Station Masters house. The new station operated until September 1931.

The house then became the signal masters house until he retired in 1970. The signal box was then manned by staff who lived in the St Austell area. The retired signal master lived in the house until 1981 when he moved to St Austell.

The Warrender family bought the house in 1984 by which time it was derelict, and set about rebuilding it. The line was single tracked in 1986 and the signal box was closed down. The double line was re-instated in 2004.
